Whisper Films to Produce Indy 500 for BT Sport

BT Sport has awarded the contract for its upcoming live TV coverage of the Indy 500 to Whisper Films.

It is the first ever BT Sport commission won by the flourishing independent sports production company.

In another first, on May 28, Whisper Films will produce an impressive sporting double header, with live coverage of both the Indy 500 for BT Sport and the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix for C4.

Suzi Perry will present the Indy 500 show along with British professional racing driver Mike Conway and top sports journalist Richard Williams.

The race has now taken on an added importance with the presence of Fernando Alonso and the build-up will feature an exclusive interview with the McLaren driver. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will also been commenting.

Whisper Films Director and former Formula One driver David Coulthard said: “BT Sport’s decision to appoint Whisper Films, shows that we have an unrivalled production team with an ability to produce two ambitious sporting events on the same day. The teams extensive sporting expertise means we are ideally placed to deliver this.”

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Motor racing fans across the world are intrigued to see how the world class Fernando Alonso will fare against his more experienced Indycar competitors. Led by Suzi Perry, our team will provide live expertise and analysis on one of the most iconic races on the global motorsport calendar.”

Whisper Films produced over 200 hours of terrestrial coverage last year and the company’s 900% growth was the biggest of any indie in the UK. Coverage included F1 for Channel 4, Women’s Six Nations for BBC, 40 NFL magazine shows for BBC Sport and NFL UnDiscovered broadcast on Sky Sports, along with coverage of the World Endurance Championship for Channel 4. The Women’s Euros will be added to the production list this summer.
